UAMS Central Building Code Upgrades and CB5A Renovation
Little Rock, Arkansas
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
Various square footages of renovations occurred in the Central Building while the facility remained open for critical healthcare operations. Close coordination with hospital staff was planned and phased to upgrade fire alarms and water sprinklers in the entire building and to add patient rooms to the CB5A building (Phase 1). This phase consisted of a 7,500 SF 12 bed anti-partum unit for high-risk pregnancies located in a previously demolished patient wing. A temporary anti-room blocked the construction areas from regular operations to maintain positive and negative pressure between spaces. Coordination with the 6th floor administration office staff and 4th post-partum department was established to determine timing of the work on their floors for support construction on the 5th floor. Materials were brought in as needed on a dedicated elevator. CDI maintained the public spaces to pick up any debris and keep the area clean with no obvious signs of the ongoing construction.
